I love my mum, well she’s my mum isn’t she, which means she can get to be overbearing and overprotective and irritating and I still love her (I do live a 1,000 miles away though - coincidence? Perhaps). She does have a few annoying “long distance” habits though. I just got a phone call.
“There’s a programme on Channel 4 that you’d really enjoy.”
“Super, so are you taping it for me?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Well I could put a tape in now, but the first half is already gone - I did think of you when I saw it though.”

I don’t normally offer up any personal details about my life and friends, but I am going to have to explain why my mother thought of me when seeing that. German ex-girlfriend is from Rotenburg and it’s a tiny place (and both she and the town are very pretty by the way), and I know the defence lawyer and, oh Jeez, I hope I’m convincing you here because otherwise I’m going to have trouble getting people to come to my barbecue parties this summer.
