The first comment at the end of a recent terribly-written post was an invitation to sign up to the 1952 Committee - “previously pro-Tory bloggers who have decided not to vote Tory because of their support for ID cards”. Initially I thought “pro-Tory”, is that how I appear? Perhaps “previously pro-Tory” is John’s way of saying “not some ludicrously insane moonbat”. As I’ve mentioned a couple of times before, I’ve never actually voted Conservative in a General Election (a couple of times at Local level though). If I think of how I have voted in “proper” elections since I first could in 1992, it’s always been Monster Raving Loony or LibDem (insert comparison comment of your choice here), the fact is that since 1996 I’ve felt unable to vote Conservative. It has something to do with the Home Secretary of the day deciding he didn’t like the idea of targetted pistol shooting as a sport. They are not a party of personal freedom and (now that I’ve thought about it) I can’t honestly say that I won’t be voting Tory because of ID Cards - it’s just the icing on the cake. As I’ve aged I’ve become a believer in low taxes, as small a government as possible and as much personal freedom as possible. I’ve always been a bit dubious about exactly which “personal freedoms” the Conservative Party want to allow. I should be a “typical” Tory voter, and if John’s list is anything to go by, their natural supporters are giving up in droves too. I would vote Conservative, in fact I will vote for anyone who will offer me, anything like little-l-liberalism, small government, an end to this culture where no one is ever to blame, that we’re an independent nation, yes-even if it gets as far as leaving the EU. Oh, and I’d like my gun back.
So, yes sign me up, but it’ll have to be to the “Already lost, but position on ID’s would prevent return” group.
InActualFact votes FDP. Free market policies and leadership changes involving death by jumping out of a plane and forgetting to pull your parachute cord. Now that’s a political party.
