Bild is the most popular newspaper in Germany, it’s kind of right-wing, a bit down-market and features semi-naked females - it would be instantly recognisable to Britons as “The Sun with Umlauts”.
Duncan seems to pick up a copy from his co-workers occasionally and quotes from it. The newspaper is, and I want to be kind here, absolute and utter crap. It also has a live football scores ticker (note I’m writing this on a Saturday afernoon) and is highly amusing, not least because of its knowledge of the English language combined with its insistence upon using that knowledge. The story that got me was about Cameron Diaz, who is apparently to wed, wearing an American Indian dress, designed by a sorry, Native American called David Jet Black Horse. They even make a point of translating the name “Jet Black Horse” - “Flugzeug Schwarzes Pferd“. Hmmm. In one way correct and yet oh so deliciously wrong at the same time.
