Election 2005 Special

Scotland: Disturbingly yellow“Yes ladies and gentleman, from now until May 5th we’ll be bringing you wall-to-wall coverage of what promises to be the most exciting UK election since, well, the last one. Our graphics department has been working on some new animations which aren’t quite as garish as the ones from last time. As for our editorial policy, we’ll mostly be following that bit in our charter about parties, equal airtime and so on. Obviously we hate the Conservatives and we’ll give them a hard time, but after that whole Iraq and Hutton thing we’re not particularly enamoured with Tony either - expect Charles Kennedy to get way more interviews than he’s used to. We’re certainly not going to mention the UKIP except when it looks like they’re going to split the Tory vote in marginal seats. We’ll do some bits about the SNP and Plaid Cymru and although we know that Sinn Féin are the good guys and Ian Paisley’s lot wear bowler hats, we’re never quite sure about the SDLP, so we’ll pretty much leave the Northern Irish parties alone. We might even manage to fit in one of those ‘people do the funniest things’ stories about the Asian businessman who, in an astonishing turn of events, is standing as a conservative candidate.”

My satellite dish is too small to get really clear reception of the BBC in Southern Germany, but that’s what they appeared to be saying…..

German Phrase For Today:Das muss nicht unbedingt der Wahrheit entsprechen” - It was a really poor signal…..
