Why do they amplify the shutter sound?Mobile Blogging: Might work, might not - certainly helps pass the time whilst you’re sitting in traffic. If you’re as adept and skilled as I am, you’ll certainly be able to post your mobile phone number on your anonymous blog and manage to redate Saturday’s entry to Dec 31st 1969. And the extra large display that SonyEricsson go on about in their adverts doesn’t show quite as much as the computer you usually blog from, does it? Still, I took the photo at 5:50 in the morning and it was published on the internet at 3:02 in the afternoon, pretty impressive, I think we can all agree….

Addendum: This is an edited post. I haven’t quite figured out how to run all the controls properly, so forgive me for the way some posts disappear and then reappear (or indeed, get a time stamp from the late 60’s on them). Rest assured a whole team of highly-trained elves is working on it.

In answer to you alt text question (and what’s wrong with using the Firefox-friendly, and IE-functioning title? tag. Alt is alternative, for when no picture is shown): Blame the Koreans.

Apparently someone in Korea caused a big hoo-ha because they started using their camera phone to take pictures up schoolgirls’ skirts. The resulting legal decision was that it was the phone maker’s fault for not making it obvious that the phone contained a camera. Thus newer models of camera phones had to issue audible warnings that a photograph was being taken. Instead of using a sound which would either make people think they’ve just got a text message or that the fire alarm is going off, they made it sound like a camera. The manufacturers found it cheaper (and more likely to fend off court cases in other countries) to leave in technology once developed. Hence cameras which completely lack a shutter make a shutter noise.

I’ve no idea how or why I know that, or even if it’s true (it must be, I mean, I probably read it on the internet).
