*Originally called “Monday Morning Mélange”, which is alliteratively much better, but as a quick glance at the calendar reveals, not entirely correct. Basically, just a mix of things which aren’t necessarily worthy of entries of their own.
1. First off a post from Blognor Regis that isn’t cycling-related, talking about a visit by Saint Bob Geldof to “President” Mengistu of Ethiopa in 1984 and asking him “Isn’t it true you murder 60 people a day. You’re a f***ing c**t aren’t you?” - did he didn’t get up on stage at Live 8 and talk about f**king CAP, US Agricutural subsidies and other tariffs the rich world emplaces and helps keep the poor world poor ( he might have done, I didn’t watch it)?
2. To celebrate July 4th, I thought the weather was going to go all Mid-West and provide me with a demonstration of the first tornado I’ve seen since I spent a summer in Indiana.

Je savais pas que swabian rassemblait l’anglais!
awesome. Great photo. It never touched down though, right? We watched the temp drop 11° degrees, from 33°C to 22°, in 3 minutes with that storm.
Easyjetsetter: Look, 1 out of 3 points in “Swabian” is a start. In fact the bit today is pointing out how difficult it is and how bad I am at it. And for the record the majority of non-German words it borrows are of French origin, in case you didn’t know.
Jen: There are a lot of summer storms here, you see them brewing over the Black Forest on hot summer days and have to hope they stay there. I don’t think it touched down and I’m glad it didn’t (the second image was taken of it directly over my head). The temperature drop was pretty impressive here too - not quite as much as for the solar eclipse a few years ago though….
*BANG*
I’m back!
I didn’t know about the Language week. I’ll paticipate tomorrow with some “Münsterländer Platt”. You gotta love it!
Last summer a Tornado took a couple of roofs off in a village near us, so they do occur in Germany.
that_girl: Nice to see you back and smiling again….
Haddock: I’ve seen amateur video footage of small tornadoes on the local news before, but this thing was (estimating it from the houses in the photo) a good 70-80m wide. The second picture, incidentallywas taken by me hanging out of my kitchen window looking directly up at it, which was perhaps not the smartest of moves.
