The Stereo MCs’ Comeback Tour*

Posted on Tuesday 30 May 2006

I ain't gonna go blind, for the light which is reflectedI could pretend that I’ve spent the past month or two researching British society and how it has changed, rather than blogging – this would be true. Sort of. I have been wandering around asking, “What the hell is that all about?” a lot. More pertinently, I’ve been lacking any kind of internet connection. Admittedly, there was a dial-up modem, but when I saw it connecting at what was, in fact, 1200 baud, I gave up. British Telecom has come good (yes, I know, hard to believe) with a very good internet package after I’d been messed about by a certain other telephony provider (TalkTalk) whom I would advise anyone to steer very well clear of.
Anyway, apologies that my lack of posting is now at an end – I advise you not to read the site for a while as I hope to be writing regularly.

Getting broadband doesn’t signal an imminent departure - and it’s nearly the end of May. (See your last post but one.) Should we worry about the gun?

The idea was, stop at house for a month or two, hide in room reading and applying for jobs online and escape a.s.a.p. In reality this involved getting a “real” internet connection. On a phoneline where I wasn’t the “accountholder” (one word). Have there been conversations with “help”line operators where I said my first name was Marion - “yes it’s a man’s name, you know, like John Wayne?” - and that my date of birth was during World War 2? Well, yes.
Thankfully, I’ve been able to escape to London on many occasions. And yes, that’s someone who considers himself to be from the North, “escaping” to London - which tells you how desperate things are…. Gun still safely locked away though.

Yeah, these things take time. The trick is to find a way to keep up the momentum - I can tell you that if you lose that, you can very quickly find yourself in a massive rut. Sounds like the London trips are a great idea!

David: The London trips are great.

Haddock: I’m not mentioning the WM to you after you got tickets - my application wasn’t very successful (and I want my money back). How much interest are FIFA racking up on the cash of the people who applied pre-paid and weren’t successful?
I shouldn’t complain too much though as I’ve been offered corporate sponsor tickets to watch the match in Stuttgart on June 25th between the winners of group B and the runners up of group A but only, and this is the awful part, if England are playing.
