Is From Spiegel Online (in German). It tells of two England football fans who drove to Cologne and then went for a bit of a look around the town.
At the end of their wander they couldn’t actually find the street in which they’d parked their car. However, these two individuals were intelligent, well-prepared, and had planned for just such an eventuality by writing down the name of the street they’d parked in. All they had to do was ask a policeman where Einbahnstraße was. Classic.
I’ve done this! When I signed my son up for school I was asked at the city office which school it was. I couldn’t remember the name so the lady asked me the street and I told her “Einbahnstraße”!
I will never forget the mixture of amusement and pity on her face. I still get a stab of embarrassment out of it after all this years and it never fails to make me laugh at how green I was back then.
Elle, bearing in mind the number of stories on this site that involve my lack of knowledge of German when I first came, I probably aren’t in any position to laugh. Even though I did. Sorry.
That is excellent!
Fantastic.
