Now, I know that Mr. Haddock has pretty much of a monopoly on the Female German Football Team Scene, but a World Cup match between England and Germany has to be worth a mention, even if it is “only girls.”
Now proud Englishman that I am, I’ve obviously stuck a fiver on ze Tjermans to win, any team that beats Argentina 11-0 has to have something going for it. But why does it have to be on tv at exactly the same time as England play Australia in the cricket? The real question is: which game do I want to watch because it will feature England losing by the smallest relative margin?
Added: To be honest, past personal experience has shown that German and English women are about equal, but I didn’t realise it applied on the football pitch as well.
Added even later: Let’s not even mention the rugby, shall we? Nul points!? I forsee horribleness in matches against small Pacific nations in the near future…. Some guy watching it with me in the pub last night / my father, who had had one port too many methinks, said “lulling ‘em into a false sense of security.” But he wasn’t wearing his glasses.
A goaless draw was a fair result. It means that both teams can still qualify for the knockout stages if they win there next games
Mr. Haddock: I watched the match - it was on terrestial BBC! Wimmin playin’ football! Clothed!
Actually it’s nowhere near here as popular as in Germany - and it was BBC2 in the afternoon, but they have been cutting into ‘proper’ Match Of The Day now and again, but today it was “amusing” to notice that the half-time chat with Linekar, Shearer etc. wasn’t with Linekar, Shearer etc. and it wasn’t in the Match Of The Day Studio - it was in a pretty studio with pastel colours and a computer-imposed background of floating pink flowers. Anyway, yes, er harsh but fair. Game of two halves. ‘Crucial’ match for England. Back to the studio, Barry.
And if Germany can beat the dastardly Argies/rightful owners of Las Malvinas eleven-nil we must stand some chance, right. Right? And if we could draw with our Japanese cousins 2-2, then Germany should at least be able to get a point off them, right. Right? So, our teams both through and the Swedes already on their way home. Which is a shame, because they’re easily the most attractive team in the tournament (I mean their style of play, obviously).
