I did this weeks ago and didn’t actually blog about it because I was too busy.
“Too busy?” These people are busy trying not to get killed after having, holes drilled into various parts of their bodies with, well, drills. The boy Worstall (who has a new domain, by the way, change your blogrolls, people) mentions it too. And it’s not just about the translators and interpreters (I keep hearing the number 91 people mentioned) - it’s their families and all those who have worked for the British at risk because our media-savvy government is scared of some kind of anti-immigrant headlines in the newspapers.
I wrote to my MP whom I have previously described as a Blair-babe, greasy-pole-climbing-scumbag and she replied thus:
I entirely agree. We must protect and look after the Iraqi interpreters and others who worked with our troops. I have already written to the Foreign Secretary on this issue but am happy to take this issue up again as I focussed more particularly on the interpreters before.
Maybe I’m going to have to revise my opinion of her…….
As an incidental, after reading this CiF article on the Guardian website, I have vowed never to buy the newspaper again - even if I have always considered it “my” paper. I don’t know what one gets paid for a CiF article, £35, £70? How would I know? I know it was a hundred quid for a travel article in the Daily Mail a few years ago (hangs head in shame). But that’s it - they (The Guardian) are not getting a penny from me ever again.
That’s really good of you. Can you email me the name of your MP: it’s good news that she’s sympathetic, and we need to get her to come to the meeting at Parliament on 9th October, and also to sign an Early Day Motion. You’re very welcome to come to the event yourself: 7-9pm, Committee Room 14, St Stephen’s Entrance- just ask the coppers on the door to let you in. Further details on my blog.
CiF? £75 if it’s either commissioned or makes the main pages. If it just sits in hte sidebar, zero.
Tim: What, even Polly? I know she’s all for equality, but doesn’t she get a special deal?
