Dritter Oktober

über flagpolesYes, the 3rd of October is a great day in German history, so much so that it’s a public holiday.

On this day in 1942 Germany launched the first man-made object into space: A V2-A4 Rocket from Peenemünde. And it didn’t even fall back onto London or Antwerp.

hmm 3rd of october is not that bad (besides being my mum’s birthday - and she was really pleased getting a national holiday as a birthday present in 1990 - and I haven’t called her yet). CONSIDERING that the day the wall came down was Nov 9th. Now that day would have been highly inappropriate for a National Holiday. And it did not collide with any of the religious holidays… for further reading try http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tag_der_Deutschen_Einheit.

RhineBlaze: I think I’ve written about this before: It’s as if it happens every year or something. And what would be wrong with Germany having a National Day on 9th November?
